Gantt Chart Overview
The Gantt chart provides a visual timeline of your project, showing all tasks, their durations, and how they relate to each other.
Access the Gantt chart from any project by clicking the Schedule tab.
Creating Tasks
Tasks represent individual pieces of work on your project. Each task has a name, start date, duration, and can be assigned to team members or subcontractors.
- Click Add Task or click directly on the chart
- Enter the task name
- Set the start date and duration (in days)
- Optionally assign a category or trade
- Click Save
Tip: You can drag tasks on the Gantt chart to change their dates, or drag the edges to adjust duration.
Task Dependencies
Dependencies link tasks together so that one task must complete before another can start. This helps you create realistic schedules.
To create a dependency:
- Click on a task to select it
- Drag from the task's connector (right edge) to another task
- Or edit the task and select dependencies from the dropdown
Assigning Resources
Assign team members or subcontractors to tasks to track who's responsible for what work.
- Team Members – Employees from your business
- Subcontractors – External subbies from your database
When you assign a subcontractor, you can send them a job offer directly from the task.
Resource Calendar: BuildLedger tracks availability. If a subbie is already booked on those dates, you'll see a warning.
Milestones
Milestones are zero-duration tasks that mark important project events or deadlines.
Milestones are often tied to payment claims. You can link a milestone to a client invoice so you know when to bill.
